COREbeat detects critical failure at EYDAP, saving thousands in replacement costs
Quick action prevented a breakdown that could have cost over €50,000.
Earlier this summer, COREbeat, the end-to-end predictive maintenance platform developed by CORE Innovation Group, alerted the maintenance staff at EYDAP’s Metamorfosis Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTPM) to anomalies in a mechanical surface blower, which is critical to successful operations at the facility.
The staff reacted quickly, and after carrying out maintenance checks, they found that the blower was malfunctioning. Thanks to COREbeat’s alert and a timely inspection, maintenance staff prevented a full breakdown that would have cost the facility an estimated €50,000 in replacement equipment and operational downtime.

“Had we failed to detect an anomaly in the operation of a mechanical surface blower, like the one recorded by COREbeat, we could have faced significant impacts on the effectiveness of the aeration tank and the proper functioning of the entire wastewater treatment facility. Specifically, a malfunction of the blower could lead to insufficient oxygenation of the biological reactor, negatively affecting critical biological processes such as nitrification and the degradation of the organic load of the wastewater.
However, thanks to the timely detection of the malfunction by COREbeat and the immediate response of WWTPM staff, the necessary actions were taken to ensure the continuity and effectiveness of the treatment process, without requiring the unit to shut down. In addition, early intervention, facilitated by the CORE Group team, prevented the complete destruction of the equipment, which would have resulted in significantly higher costs due to repair or even the need for full replacement. This case serves as a prime example of the value of predictive maintenance in protecting critical infrastructure and preventing serious operational, economic, and environmental impacts.”

EYDAP — the largest water and wastewater utility in Greece — covers the needs of more than 40% of the Greece’s population and supplies the region of Attica with high-quality drinking water. The treatment plant has a daily capacity of 24,000 cubic meters of septic sewage and 20,000 cubic meters of municipal wastewater.
For the past year, COREbeat has been up and running at EYDAP’s Wastewater Treatment Plant in Metamorfosis (WWTPM), in Attica, as part of a pilot deployment. EYDAP staff have been using COREbeat for monitoring purposes, helping them optimise the energy demand levels of the plant.
The pilot installation is part of CORE Innovation Centre's work for the Trineflex Project, which is supporting the transformation of energy-intensive industrial processes through the integration of energy flexibility and the supply of raw materials.
