Ready When It Matters - First Aid Training at CORE Innovation Group

Taking a hands-on approach to looking out for each other.

When something unexpected happens at the office, the protocols hanging on the wall don't really matter. What matters is having someone next to you who actually knows what to do.

That’s exactly why we recently organized a First Aid training session for our team. To be honest, we were incredibly moved by the response. So many people signed up that instead of squeesing everyone into a single room just to tick a box, we decided to split the training across three different dates. We wanted small groups so everyone could get hands-on practice, touch the equipment, and ask questions. You can’t learn how to save a life just by watching a presentation.

We worked with experts who do this for a living, and they didn't just talk at us: they coached us through real scenarios. Plus, we’ve made sure all the training materials are permanently available to the whole team, so we can refresh our memory whenever we feel like we’re getting rusty.

Tailored to us

One of the most important things for us was that this wasn't a "one-size-fits-all" course. We asked the trainers to customise the program to fit our specific needs and the things we actually care about.

For example, we put an emphasis on severe allergic reactions. We have teammates with serious allergies, so knowing how to handle anaphylaxis isn't a theoretical "what if" scenario for us. It’s about looking out for our own people. We prioritised what felt most immediate:

  • Cardiac arrest & AED use (because having the machine is useless if you're scared to touch it)

  • Severe allergies and anaphylaxis

  • Choking, bleeding, and burns

  • Fainting and loss of consciousness

By the end of the sessions, almost 50 of us walked away with an official certification from the European Resuscitation Council (ERC), but the number isn't really the point. The point is that when something happens there will be someone in the room who knows exactly what to do, someone who's practiced it and not just read about it. Now, at CORE Innovation Group, that someone is pretty much everyone.
