Turning Mining Innovation into Market Success: Insights from Brussels
As part of RawMaterials Week 2025, the EU-funded projects DEXPLORE, UNDERCOVER, and TERRAVISION co-organized the joint clustering event “Exploring Together: Advancing Innovation in Deep-Land Critical Raw Materials Exploration.” The event took place on 19 November 2025 at Hotel Marivaux in Brussels.
Stefanos Kokkorikos, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at CORE Innovation Group, was invited to participate in Session 3 “Stakeholders Workshop.” Representing CORE Innovation Centre (CORE IC), Stefanos delivered a presentation titled “User engagement & application needs” where he discussed how Horizon Europe mining projects can strengthen user engagement and ensure that research innovations evolve into exploitable, market-ready solutions. Stefanos introduced a structured framework that links stakeholder needs with real-world adoption, examining the technical, economic, regulatory, and social dimensions that determine whether an innovation can be successfully exploited.
In the panel that followed his presentation, Stefanos Kokkorikos highlighted CORE Innovation Group’s experience supporting EU research projects and shared examples where project results have successfully reached the market or achieved industrial uptake. He also discussed key lessons learned from working closely with users and industry partners across various Horizon Europe mining initiatives. Looking ahead, Stefanos outlined how exploitation support could further evolve within Horizon Europe and what changes are needed to help more research results reach commercial or operational use.
